Did you know that 44% of all Greenwillowites celebrate their birth anniversaries between mid-September and mid-October? Martha’s gets the boomlet started. Mine’s tomorrow. And two very dear, special, important people share a birthday in October, and I’m sure you’ll be reading more about them in a couple weeks.
The team was nice enough to take me out for a celebratory cocktail last Friday. We had to go last Friday instead of this Thursday because Virginia’s leaving early tomorrow to travel to the Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards ceremony, and she had to be there to pay for the drinks. Paul made a great suggestion for a venue—reasonably quiet, tons of space, very comfortable seating, etc. Incredibly, all of the servers knew his name! Here is what it looked like.

“Wow,” you’re thinking. “That Greenwillow must be one high-class operation to be treating its employees to fancy drinks for a mere birthday!” Well, not exactly: this is one of those big multiple-of-ten birthdays and an iron-clad excuse for a work party. Thanks to everyone for taking some of the sting out of a painful milestone (although it’s not for another 24 hours, dammit!). And maybe now Barbara and Paul will share their beauty secrets with me.

Greenwillow’s great for taking the sting out of those nasty, multiple-of-ten birthdays. That’s how I glided through my last one, getting that first YES two days before.
